ESCAPEは、The Girl in the Fifth Floor Walk-Up (SUN) に続き、チャールズ・ジョンストンとヘザー・マレソンのコラボレーションによる2作目となる写真集である。この新作で、２人のアーティストはニューヨーク州北部を舞台に、二人芝居の一幕のようなファンタジー的物語世界を繰り広げている。カメラを支配しているのは2人のうちいったいどちらなのか、虚実入り混じる駆け引きが見どころになっている。使用期限の切れた古いポラロイド600フィルムが用いられているため、本書に収められた写真は古びた雰囲気を醸し出し、別の時代のイメージのようだ。主人公は被害者か、悪者か、それとも魅惑のヒロインだろうか？　エスケープしたいのは誰なのか、何から逃れたいのか？　その判断は、見る者に任されている。
